Where body and mind are closely related to each other,
Where Western medicine and alternative attitudes complement each other,
A place where it’s about YOU.
About You
House of Iris is intended for people who do not find what they are looking for within the regular care.
For people who seek professional help for physical or mental complaints but have not yet found the right approach. In today’s general practices, I see a frequent recurrence of certain symptoms. In my opinion, these complaints require a broader view. This takes more time. Further medical examinations do not show abnormalities in many cases. Treatment often stops here, but the symptoms have not disappeared.

Your Body
You have physical symptoms with no clear organic cause or symptoms that keep coming back. You are open to a holistic approach, assuming that everything is connected. To treat symptoms with nutrition advice, breathing exercises and lifestyle changes. You acknowledge that the mind affects the body. You want to find out what the symptoms tell you and to break underlying patterns in order to resolve your complaints.
Examples: fatigue, abdominal complaints, lasting injuries or inflammation.
Your Mind
You are experiencing mental complaints and are open to a body-oriented approach. You want to learn how you can influence your mind through your body. Create a better understanding of how your body functions and learn about the major influence of your autonomic nervous system. Experience with breathing and meditation techniques how to bring your body into a resting state. Learn to ‘feel what you feel’ inside your body. You want to become aware of underlying beliefs that evoke these feelings. You want to let go of these beliefs and start making new choices.
Examples: sleeping problems, mood swings, burnout, stress or anxiety.
An addition to regular care.
It is important for me to mention that I see this practice as an addition to regular care. Healthcare in the Netherlands is well organized, especially for diagnosing clear or severe diseases.
In the case of minor or vague symptoms, however, people often do not know where to go. I experience a large gap between regular and alternative care. With this practice, I want to narrow that gap.
About Iris
House of Iris originated from my own quest. When I went back to work as a general practitioner after I became a mother, I got stuck both physically and mentally. Despite the fact that I did everything I could to live a super healthy life, I had several complaints for which I could not find an explanation. The medical world I knew could not help me any further.
I ended up in another world looking for a solution. Fortunately, there turned out to be a lot of alternatives in this world that could help me. Slowly but surely, I started to feel better.
I found out that medically, much more was known about this other world than I had learned during my medical studies. With this new knowledge, I started to approach my patients differently. However, I got the feeling more and more that I could not get to the root of the problem in the short amount of time available. This did not feel right anymore.
At House of Iris, I work in a different way, a way that I fully support with a broader view and enough time to get to the core of the problem. Together, we will make sure that you feel good again.

My Approach
A holistic approach based on a medical background.
At House of Iris, I do not approach symptoms as isolated facts but as expressions of the human body as a whole. An approach with a medical background complemented by a holistic vision as body and mind interact.
Starting with the body
Whether you have physical or mental health problems, we first look at the body. With knowledge about how your body functions, we try to understand what your body is telling us. We look at the state of your autonomic nervous system. This determines whether your body is in an ‘ON’’ or ‘OFF’ state. You learn how to influence your autonomic nervous system with breathing and meditation exercises, healthy diet advice and lifestyle changes. You become aware of what is happening inside you. Together, we can rebalance your body.
Getting to the core
When the body is more in balance, we can look at the source of the complaints. Because you now better understand your body, you can learn to ‘feel what you feel’. Now you can, for example, notice in which situations your body becomes very ‘ON’. A physical reaction is unconsciously triggered, which often has a mental cause. Together, we search for the underlying beliefs that are the root of these reactions. Your body becomes an instrument to help you understand which unconscious patterns exist.
Making new choices
You become increasingly aware of patterns that have been created over the years and that unconsciously guide your life completely. You can notice these patterns more and more often and now make a different choice to ensure that physical and/or mental complaints do not come back.
Breathwork
During my search, I came across many different breathing techniques. I am still impressed by the positive impact of these techniques. Many health benefits have, meanwhile, been demonstrated. I always look at your breathing pattern, and I work with breathing exercises. In addition, it can be useful to do a breathing session during a treatment program. During this session, we exercise a breathing technique for 60 minutes, which activates and calms your autonomic nervous system. This is physically very healthy, and mentally, you can sometimes reach unconscious feelings during or after a session.
